What should I expect at my first visit?

Once you have booked your appointment by calling, emailing, or our convenient 24/7 online booking method, you will receive an appointment confirmation email. Expect an automatic email appointment reminder 48 hours before your appointment and a text reminder 24 hours prior. One day before your first appointment you will receive an email from us (Info@NexusSpineSport.com) containing important appointment details.

Your first visit is about 60 minutes and follow-ups 20-40 minutes. Please, plan your schedule accordingly.

We will perform a thorough history taking, physical assessment examination. The gathering of information is crucial to your road to recovery because it helps us understand the problem and how it behaves based on different postures, positions, and movements. We methodically eliminate possibilities to know what the problem is and what it isn’t, like peeling away the layers of the onion to reach the core of the problem. When we uncover the source of the problem(s), only then can we achieve a true solution.

It is important to understand what we are doing is not magic, rather a scientific assessment of gathered information to determine the best treatment for you.

By following the assessment fully, we are able to get answers, faster. If the assessment concludes that we cannot help you, it offers the appropriate information to make the correct referral to another professional.

We will discuss our findings with you and offer recommended treatment options so that you can be part of an informed decision. We hold patient education to a high standard. We strive to make the information presented to you digestible and understandable. We encourage questions.

If we decide we’re a good fit to work together, you can expect to receive an actionable plan to start your road to recovery, armed with strategies to correct your problem and help keep it that way!

What are follow-up visits like?

All appointments are 1-on-1 and hands-on with your Doctor the entire length of your visit, every visit. We don’t see you for a few minutes then hand you off to someone else!

We are always evaluating and reevaluating. As we go through the process of “peeling away the layers of the onion” to get to the core of the problem, we’re constantly modifying your treatments, strategies and the recommendations we make accordingly. You and your frustrations are unique to you and ever-changing, so your treatment should never follow a strict, cookie-cutter protocol.

We will ask questions, test, re-test, recommend strategies, offer advice, employ hands-on treatment, and coach rehabilitative & performance exercise. You will have to move around, answer questions, pay attention, follow instructions and provide detailed feedback — this is an active approach! We are eliminating possibilities to get a clear understanding of the primary issue and how to solve it.

Ultimately, a treatment plan is a team effort. We have to work together to not only get you moving and feeling better, but understand why the problem occurred in the first place, how it changes, and how to maintain your results with simple self-strategies. Only then can you achieve a solution, so you can get back to what you love doing most, and keep it that way!

How long is a short-term care plan?

Our treatment plans are about 6-8 visits over 4-6 weeks on average — our par for the course. Depending on the type of injury/ailment, how long it has been going on, and level of adherence to recommended exercise prescriptions and movement strategies, it may be shorter or longer.

If it’s a recent issue you’re trying to take care of as soon as possible, we can expect to move along quickly; conversely, if you’ve dealt with something for years, we cannot reasonably expect it to resolve it in a matter of a few weeks.

Also, if you’re not compliant with what we prescribe you do in between visits, it will take us longer to get to the root of the problem.

Either way, if we’re not making measurable progress, we’re not going to spin our wheels. A referral to the appropriate health/medical professional may be necessary. When situations like this arise, we will make our best recommendations so you can make the most informed decision.

Are you accepting new clients/patients?

Yes, all the time! Our treatment plans are about 6-8 visits over 4-6 weeks on average — our par for the course.

Because our treatment plans are about 6-8 visits over 4-6 weeks to solve most problems, we have constant turnover. Our treatment and business model does not afford us the luxury to keep people in the loop of weekly treatments for months on end, and, quite frankly, we couldn’t live with ourselves practicing that way. We know there’s a better way and we’re making it happen.

Because of constant patient/client turnover, we rely heavily on word-of-mouth referrals from previous clientele — it’s what keeps the doors open to help more people.

If you or someone else you know could benefit from our approach, we would greatly appreciate the referral!

Not sure if we are a good fit for you or someone you know? We would love the opportunity to set up a complimentary courtesy call with you!

Will you X-Ray me?

No, we do not have an x-ray machine in the office nor do we utilize it for diagnostic purposes. We are dynamic beings in motion (hopefully). We have a movement based approach to our practice, so looking at a static picture, such as an x-ray image, would not alter how we would address your problem.

If you suffered a traumatic accident such as a slip and fall, we find something during your history and examination where imaging (i.e., x-ray, CT scan, MRI) is warranted, or we’re not meeting expected progress, we will make the referral for imaging accordingly. We have teamed up with McClaren Diagnostic Imaging to make this a smooth process once Dr. Annas writes the order form.  In some cases, it’s important to get an imaging study to determine whether or not treatment is viable. Dr. Annas will be able to make this recommendation for you.

Are you going to make my joints crack/click/pop?

The one-liner answer is classic: It depends.

The crack/click/pop that you hear during a  adjustment or manipulation, is simply gas leaving the joint. Think of the sound a suction cup makes when you pull it off a glass window. This sound does not confirm if the adjustment “worked” or not, it is just an associated occurrence. Let’s be crystal clear. Nothing is “cracking.”

The goal of an adjustment is to get joint articulations that are not moving well to move better. When a joint is not moving properly, it can cause other joints to have to move excessively to make up for the stuck joint, which can lead to pain and injury.  Proper joint mechanics are critical for fluid and nutrients to nourish joints, and also play a pivotal role in how our muscles and tendons function.

Though adjustments are a great tool, like a hammer or wrench, it’s another one of the proverbial “tools in the toolbelt”. We don’t always have to use the adjustment tool, and we’ve had many successes without it. Adjustments are painless and feel quite good afterward. It is possible to have residual soreness later in the day, but this is quite reasonable especially if you’ve never been adjusted. If you have any concerns or phobias, don’t fret, we have many other tools in our belts!

Do you accept my health insurance?

Probably. We are  in-network with all Blue Cross Blue Shield plans, UHC, Medicare, and Aetna, UMR Beaumont, Cofinity, but this does not mean they will pay for everything. If we are out-of-network, we still accept the insurance and verify the benefits. We have billed out-of-network insurance with better coverage than our in-network counterparts.

Insurance companies are unclear at best. We can get an idea but don’t fully know what your insurance covers until after your first claim is processed (about 2-3 weeks).

We never offer anything short of our best recommendations — period. We don’t accept all health insurances because we won’t allow insurance to dictate how we serve our patients and clients. We practice with a blend of chiropractic, physical therapy, clinical nutrition, manual therapy, and strength & conditioning — most of what we different than anything you have experienced. Many insurances only cover x-rays and adjustments, whereas the rest is required to be paid out-of-pocket.

We legally cannot offer discounts or waive rendered therapies when billing insurance, so the out-of-pocket costs can add up quickly. As an affordable alternative, we offer a flat private-pay rate covering all services. Depending on your doctor, the $60-80 private-pay rate is about a third to half the cost of an average insurance claim.

Today, many companies are offering FSA/HSA programs to employees, which is saving our patients a lot of out-of-pocket costs
